This week was throwback week in Heidelberg! I feel so incredibly blessed to be a missionary here in Germany. Everything we need, we have. And if we don't have it, we can pop to the store and get it. Busses and trains take us everywhere we need to go. The food is great, the people are amazing. We are blessed. This week was a great reminder of all that we have and also a reminder that we can still function without them.
This week...
We had no running water in our kitchen, that means no sink to wash dishes in and no washing machine. But no worries! That just meant hand washing clothes in the bathroom sink and doing our dishes in the shower. :p
We didn't have our GPS with us when we were out in a little town 45 minutes out of Heidelberg. But, this adorable little town happens to have a big town map at each bus stop, so we were still able to find the people we were looking for.
And as an added surprise to really finish this throwback week off right, on Sunday after church, we headed out to the normal street car stop and a few minutes later this super old time street car pulls up. I'm talking, conductor man standing at each door, driver pumping the hand brake, wooden plank floor, old school street car.
And now, a little bit of soul food for the week...
For the past while now, I have been studying/pondering charity(or the pure love of Christ) and the heart. Here is some of what I have learned:
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. (1 Corinthians 13:1-3, New Testament)
It is good to do good things, but what is most important is that we really put our hearts into it. It is about more than what we do, it is about who we are!
For I, the Lord, will judge all men according to their works, according to the desire of their hearts. (Doctrine and Covenants 137:9)
So, go out there and spread some love! Through a smile, a kind word, an act of service, etc.
Y'all are great! I am so grateful for each and every one of you:) sorry I haven't been so good about writing lately, I'm trying to be better!
Love,
Sister Wahlquist
