That's right, my time in Heidelberg has come to an end. Last Saturday, I found out that I will be moving to Kaiserslautern this coming Thursday. Seven months doesn't really sound that long, especially in comparison to those that leave after seven or seventy years. But for these seven months, Heidelberg has been my life. I spent every day walking it's streets, putting all of my heart, might, mind, and strength into loving and serving the people. I am so grateful for the many experiences I have had, people I have met, and things I have learned here in Heidelberg. It will forever be a part of my story and have a place in my heart.
I had a wonderful talk with someone yesterday that I would love to share with you all. We were talking about what we treasure. When our treasures are gold and riches, they just sit there on the table. They don't bring us good, only worry. We worry that someone will come and take some away, we worry about how to get more. But when our treasure is love or knowledge, we don't have these worries. As we give these treasures away, we receive a greater amount in return!
Christ gave great advice on this topic as he spoke to the multitude during his Sermon on he Mount:
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
(Matthew 6:19-21, the New Testament)
I don't know about you, but I sure prefer this self-multiplying, ever-lasting treasure.
Much Love,
Sister Wahlquist
