So as for my title, Brother Garlick's (one of my teachers) favorite thing to say to us is kein stress (no stress). So we have adopted that as our motto. As some of you may know, I'm a sucker for inspirational quotes. In one our our devotionals Stephen B Allen spoke (he used to work in the advertising department for the church) and he showed us various old super cheesy commercials from the church, and each one had a tag line at the end. Here are some of my favorites: When everything says you can't, believe in the part of you that says you can. It's not who you aren't, it's who you are. And being yourself is being great! It's often life's small moments that bring the greatest memories. Don't let their magic pass you by. The people in your heart can't hear what's in your heart. They need to know what's in your heart. Tell them you love them everyday! The fourth of July is just two days away!! If you want to get in a super patriotic spirit I suggest you watch last Sunday's Music and the Spoken Word performance, it rocks!! http://www.mormontabernaclechoir.org/videos/independence-day-special-june-30-2013-music-and-the-spoken-word?lang=eng For church in the MTC for the German missionaries, the service is done in German. Every week there is a set topic that they tell everyone and we all have to prepare a 5 minute talk in German about that subject. Then at the start of the meeting they tell which two people will be presenting their talks. As you may have guess.... I was chosen to speak this past Sunday!! It was such an awesome experience, and quite a bit nerve wracking. But I made it through :) So I came into the MTC thinking that it would help me learn teaching skills and learn German and build my confidence in that. DEAD WRONG! The MTC humbles you like none other. But it is when you are that low that you reach out for God's help. And he lifts you to heights you never even imagined possible. Now a few unusual experiences for the week: In the middle of choir practice a bat started flying around the room..... One day at the start of class our teacher told us to stand up and go outside and run a lap around the building, we thought he was kidding, until he took off at a full sprint (while wearing a full on suit)... I'm finding out the truth of everyone's words. At the MTC the days are long but the weeks fly by. I love you all and hope you have a spectacular Fourth of July! Love, Sister Wahlquist |
